The new balcony

We had a party yesterday. The renovated balcony welcomed a little more than a dozen friends for lunch for a good time and excellent food.

The previous two weeks, the deafening noise of the machines and the dust had been our daily lot from morning to night. Despite the din our couple of pigeons remained extraordinarily zen on their nest in the conquer tree and this morning I drank my coffee next to a young squab sitting on the balustrade behind me.

What trust! I thought. Not at all worried by my presence, he scanned the surroundings for a while, familiarizing himself with this new view, from way below his nest. Luckily the cats weren’t there…

Before going back up above our heads, he offered us 2 beautiful droppings…

The nest has now been vacated.

I wrote these few lines at the end of June.

And now on the balcony the sunflower seeds again attract sparrows, tits, greenfinches and others. Their “restaurant” having had to be moved to the foot of the conquer tree during the works, they had not dared to venture there even though I made sure it was protected from the cats. The new location had not met with many visitors.

I was so eager to finish the balcony to relocate their food and and see our little friends there again.

Now it’s a couple of doves that seem to appreciate our conquer tree. These cuties come here to coo during our meals, making us forget for a moment the incessant tse-tse-tse of the cicadas. Will they make a nest there?
